  President talks to media about audit regulation reform  

Hong Kong Economic Journal and Hong Kong Economic Times both carried extensive features about the Institute President Clement Chan this week, covering issues including audit regulation reform, profession's liability reform and requirement for listed companies to appoint a qualified accountant.

 

Council co-opts two new members

At its meeting on 21 Jan., Council co-opted two new members for 2014: Richard Tse, Vice President – Finance & Corporate Services, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Gary Biddle, PCCW Professor, Chair of Accounting, The University of Hong Kong. The two co-opted Council members will hold office until the end of the next AGM.

Early closing and library conversion

The Institute will close at 4 p.m. on 30 Jan. for Chinese New Year's Eve. The library will close from 27 Jan. to mid-April for renovation.

Fair value measurement
The financial reporting seminar on 18 March will focus on the application of HKFRS 13 Fair Value Measurement and its implications on valuing different assets and liabilities.

Measuring the fair value of non-tradable financial assets
The seminar on 31 March will talk about how to estimate credit value adjustments on financing assets and solutions on evaluating the risk and value of complex financial instruments. +

Successful listing in Hong Kong
The two-day sessions on 8 and 20 Feb. will cover preparation for a successful Hong Kong listing, common problems involved and post-listing obligations. +

Invitation to comment
The Institute's Auditing and Assurance Standards Committee is seeking comments on exposure draft of HKSIR 500 Reporting on Profit Forecasts, Statements of Sufficiency of Working Capital and Statements of Indebtedness.

Members' handbook updates
Members' handbook update 136 contains annual improvements to HKFRSs 2010-12 cycle and 2011-13 cycle. Update 137 contains revised Corporate Practices (Registration) Rules (January 2014) and Statement 1.102 (sch.) Schedule to the CPR Rules "Corporate Practices (Model Memorandum and Articles of Association)" (January 2014).

Practical guide on hedge accounting
PwC has published a guide to discuss the revised requirements on hedge accounting contained in IFRS 9 Financial Instruments. +
