New members were feted at a cocktail reception on 5 May, where they were greeted by the president, chief executive, vice president, council members, and senior staff. A total of 1,631 new members have joined the Institute since April last year. Click here to see photos.

New technical training, special price

CFIG forum and seminar

Speakers from FSTB and SFC will explain the proposed statutory codification of price sensitive information disclosure requirements in the corporate finance interest group forum on 24 May.

Due to overwhelming response for the seminar on the latest PRC policies about listing non state-owned mainland enterprises overseas, we are arranging a re-run session on 12 May.

Deadline is approaching: Please enrol in the PRC Accounting Qualification Examination (中國會計從業資格考試) by 10 May and the PRC CPA Uniform Examination (中國註冊會計師統一考試) by 15 May via the Institute.

Invitation to comment
The Institute’s financial reporting standards committee is seeking comments on the IASB exposure draft of Proposed Amendments to IAS 19 - Defined Benefit Plans.

IFRS update
Ernst & Young has published an update for financial years ending 30 June 2010 to provide an overview of the upcoming changes in standards and interpretations. +

HKFRS illustrative financial statements and disclosure checklist
Deloitte has published these examples for the year ended 31 December 2009, which contains the requirements of the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance. +
 
  Business news
A-share listing accelerated for foreign firms
China Securities Regulatory Commission has accelerated the listing process for red-chip and foreign companies on the A-share market. The international board for listings of overseas companies will make its debut in Shanghai later this year, China Daily reports. +

Goldman Sachs considers settlement
Times Online reports Goldman Sachs is considering settlement talks with the U.S. regulators over the fraud charges brought against it last month. +

Indoor rowing winners
Congratulations to the Institute's women teams who won the championship and placed second in the Bank of China (Hong Kong)'s rowing competition on 25 April. The men's teams were placed fourth and sixth in the 4 x 500m team relay. Emily Ng and Gary Lam were the 3rd and 4th runner-ups in the respective 1,000m individual race. Click to see the photos.
