  Budget: more new and long term measures needed  

The government's budget for 2012-13 is solid in the short term but light on the long term, according to the Institute, which talked to the media after the financial secretary's budget speech. The Institute's comments were widely covered by the media including NOW TV , Cable TV, Metro Radio, RTHK, SCMP, Hong Kong Economic Journal and Ming Pao Daily. In the evening of day of the budget announcement, members attended a forum to discuss the budget with our speakers.
 

Co-option of council members

Council has co-opted two new members for 2012. They are Gary Poon, principal of Poon & Co. and Ivy Cheung, partner of KMPG.


Year book

A new year book of the Institute has been published to highlight the commitment of our committees, boards, panels, task forces and the council. They contribute to the profession by volunteering their time and expertise. If you want copies, please write to us at hkicpa@hkicpa.org.hk.


GAA paper on improving international standards

GAA's proposals to enhance the quality of international standard setting discusses the increasing influence of international standards on the global economy and national regulation, and the benefits, costs and risks associated with it.


Environmental, social and governance reporting consultation
HKEx has published a consultation paper to seek views on its proposed environmental, social and governance reporting guide, which aims to encourage listed companies to start this kind of reporting. Deadline for comments is 9 April.

Standard Chartered marathon this Sunday

President Keith Pogson, vice president Susanna Chiu, sports and recreation club convenor Gabriel Tam, and more than 30 members received the most supportive group trophy last Saturday at the marathon expo. The number of CPA runners this year has jumped 120% to 1,126 from 512 last year. Click here to see photos.
