  New liaison office in Guangzhou and cocktail reception  

The Institute's Guangzhou liaison office has been set up this month to support members and QP students working and residing there. The Institute also hosted a cocktail reception on 2 March where over 80 guests from Guangdong government, finance and tax authorities, universities, CPA practices and chamber of commerce, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong and Institute members attended. Making a difference – CPAs support the community

Accountant ambassadors joined a briefing session on 2 March to learn more about the Institute's "CPAs for NGOs" programme and how they can help non-governmental organizations improve financial management, internal controls and governance. The Hong Kong Council of Social Service's representatives enriched the discussion by highlighting the operating culture and practices of local NGOs. Click to see photos.

Launched in 2013 in collaboration with HKCSS, "CPAs for NGOs" is a social responsibility programme for our members to use their professional skills and knowledge to contribute to the community. Click to see a video featuring the initiative.

 

Regulation for stored-value facilities and retail payment systems

Speaker from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority will talk about the latest development of the Clearing and Settlement Systems (Amendment) Bill 2015 and the new framework for stored-value facilities and retail payment systems at the Financial Services Interest Group seminar on 31 March.


Intangible assets valuation

The seminar on 24 April will introduce commonly-observed intangible asset types and commonly-adopted valuation methodologies. +

Come join the seminar on 14 April which will explain how to sharpen your networking mindset and ability and build long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationship with your stakeholders at work. +


360° leadership skills series

The 360° leadership skills series between April and June will teach you people management techniques, and how to build a committed team with trust and motivate staff to achieve goals.


Reminder: understanding costs, price and variances

The workshop on 14 March will talk about the material price and sales price variances and the impact on cashflow. +

 
Post-marathon drink
All CPA runners are invited to join the post-marathon drink on 24 March to share the excitement and experience at the Standard Chartered Marathon. We will also present CPA marathon trophies (for members) and SRC marathon trophies (for QP graduates and students) to outstanding runners. Submit your official result by 16 March.

At the Merry Monday on 13 April, Julia laconelli from Telford International will share tips on pairing wines and chocolates.

Members' handbook update no. 166 contains PN 810.2 (Revised) The Duties of the Auditor of an Insurer Authorized under the Insurance Companies Ordinance and other editorial and formatting changes to various HKSAs.

Measurement of joint operations
PwC has published a guide to provide insights on measurement of joint operations. +
