  Business Startup Series  

This Business Startup Series from September to November will address issues surrounding starting up a business from the perspectives of both the entrepreneurs and investors such as venture capitalists and business angels. The series will cover funding the investee business, the legal implications of founding your startup, and the key elements leading to a sustainable business. The series also includes an experience sharing and networking event – the Entrepreneurs Sharing Forum – where a panel of entrepreneurs will share insights and stories adding to your knowledge on building a sustainable and successful business.

 

Mandatory CPD requirements for 2019 membership renewal
Members who joined the Institute before 1 Dec 2015 are required to complete 120 hours of continuing professional development in the three years ending 30 Nov 2018, of which 60 hours must be verifiable. Think Global, Think Hong Kong
Take part in the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's "Think Global, Think Hong Kong" travel mission to Tokyo on 1 Nov to meet entrepreneurs from Japan and Hong Kong to discuss developments and trends in the global economy, as well as to explore cooperation opportunities in the global markets. Around 2,000 local business leaders, government officials and SMEs are expected to attend the symposium and business consultation activities.

Proposed International Standard of Auditing 315 (Revised)

The IAASB will hold a Q&A webinar session on 3 Oct to discuss the key proposed revisions to the auditor’s risk identification and assessment procedures in ISA 315 (Revised) Exposure Draft. Register now and email your questions for the Q&A session by 24 Sep to philminnaar@iaasb.org. A separate 90-minute webinar explaining the proposed changes to the standard is available.


Upcoming new accounting standards
Major accounting firms have conducted surveys on the readiness of companies to implement IFRS 16 Leases (Deloitte and EY) and IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts (Deloitte and KPMG) by its effective dates in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

The ICAEW's free online premium technical resources, International Accounting, Auditing and Ethics, has been renamed to International Standards. The platform continues to provide the latest technical and practical resources in the application of international accounting, auditing and ethics standards to Institute members. Standard Chartered Marathon

The ballot registration system for public entry for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2019 is now open till 29 Sep. Don't forget to register with the Institute as a CPA runner to enjoy a series of pre- and post- race support, and join the following training sessions to prepare yourself for the race:

Marathon training classes for 10km, half-marathon and full-marathon starting in October.
