We recently received a complaint from one of our members who said he had received a telephone call from the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs asking if he had voted in the Council election, and if so, for whom.
The Institute keeps a neutral role in elections, and under no circumstances would we contact members in the manner described, or campaign on behalf of any individual candidates running for Council seats.
If you should receive such a telephone call, please take down the caller's name and number and let us know. We will contact the caller to ask him or her to stop misrepresenting the Institute. Please contact Ms. Stella To, Deputy Director for the Communications Department of the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs, at 2287-7209.
In addition, the Institute has received numerous complaints from members about other election-related issues, including that they are receiving far too many emails and phone calls from candidates campaigning for Council seats. Again, it is important for us to note that the Institute does not give out membership details to candidates for purposes of Council elections.
Following this election, all complaints and comments will be brought to the attention of the new Council and we shall endeavor to update and improve our election policies and procedures as appropriate.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation during this election; I look forward to reporting to you on the results after our Annual General Meeting this Friday evening.
