Hong Kong Institute of CPAs Issues Proposed
Reporting Framework for SMEs

The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs has issued for consultation an Exposure Draft of proposed small and medium-sized entity financial reporting framework and financial reporting standard for Hong Kong.

This is the last round of consultation on the proposal and the deadline for comments is 30 April 2005.

The Institute expects that with the consultation completed by end of April 2005, the final financial reporting framework and standard for small and medium-size entities will be introduced by end of June 2005, with the effective date of financial reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2005.


Budget Commentary 2005-06

The Financial Secretary, Mr. Henry Tang, will deliver the 2005-06 budget speech at the Legislative Council on Wednesday, 16 March 2005.

The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs will host a seminar for members that evening and speakers will share their views on how the budget will affect financial and tax planning. Details are as follows:

The Hong Kong Coalition of Professional Services Hosts CEPA Forum

The Hong Kong Coalition of Professional Services ( 香港專業聯盟 ) (HKCPS) will host a forum in Hong Kong on 30 March 2005 with the Guangdong-Hong Kong Services Co-operation Task Force ( 粵港服務業合作專責小組 ). A delegation of the Guangdong Provincial Government officials will attend the forum to answer questions about the implementation of various CEPA initiatives as regards their practice or business in the Mainland. Hong Kong Institute of CPAs Member Practices are invited to take part in this event.

1. Hong Kong Open Indoor Rowing Championships & Charity Rowathon 2005
 

The Institute's mixed team will participate in the Charity Rowathon which will raise funds for the Hong Kong Association for the Promotion of Mental Health. The Institute has also formed two men's teams and two women's teams to take part in the 4 x 500M team relay under the "Government Departments and Professional Bodies" category.  

The competition is organised by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association.

2. Walk Up Jardine House 2005
 

The Institute's mixed team will participate in the team relay under the "Business Associates" category to run up the 49-storey Jardine House.

This charitable event organised by the Jardine Matheson Group will raise funds for the Group's registered charity, Mindset, to increase public awareness and understanding of mental health issues and support related charitable initiatives.

Sports Interest Groups

The Institute is running five Sports Interest Groups ("SIGs") on basketball, bridge, dragon boat racing, water sports, football and golf. Through regular gatherings and participation in competitions, SIGs members not only improve their sports skills but also build team spirit and friendship with their fellow members.
