Campaign Activities during Election Committee Accountancy Subsector By-Election

The Institute recently received a number of complaints from members that they have received telephone calls from persons claiming to be from the HKICPA Council asking that the members vote for Peter Choy Chak Wa in the forthcoming by-election.

The Institute keeps a neutral role in elections, and under no circumstances would we contact members in the manner described, or campaign on behalf of any individual candidates running for the by-election.

The Institute has issued a letter to Mr. Choy to advise him of these complaints and requested his response. To ensure transparency, we attach and have posted our letter together with Mr. Choy's response on the Institute's website
<http://www.hkicpa.org.hk/accountancy_subsector.php>.

If you should receive such a telephone call, please take down the caller's name and number and let us know. We will contact the caller to ask him or her to stop misrepresenting the Institute. Please contact Ms. Stella To, Deputy Director, Communications, at 2287 7209.

I would like to take this opportunity again to encourage all registered voters to turn up on the by-election day, Sunday, 1 May 2005 and cast their votes.

Thank you for your assistance and cooperation during this election; I look forward to reporting to you on the results soon.

Yours sincerely ,

Winnie C.W. Cheung
