Institute Responds to IASB Questionnaire on SMEs

he Institute's submission to the IASB Staff Questionnaire responds to questions about possible simplification of

recognition and measurement principles for small and medium-sized enterprises and includes topics addressed in IFRSs that may be omitted from SME Standards. Please click here for more.


Guidance for Auditors Acting as Scrutineer
T
he Institute has issued an Exposure Draft of proposed guidance for auditors acting as scrutineer at a general meeting of a listed issuer. Comments are due by
8 July 2005. The proposed guidance has been prepared in consultation with The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and the Securities & Futures Commission.

Handbook Updates No. 13 and 14

andbook Update 13 enclosed Professional Ethics Statement 1.207A ¡V Change of Auditors of a Listed Issuer of The Stock
Exchange of Hong Kong, which is effective for resignations of auditors of listed issuers on or after 1 June 2005. Update 14 enclosed three re-issued HK Interpretations and one new HK Interpretation.

Institute Speaks at CAPA Meeting
T
he Institute participated in the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) meeting
hosted by CICPA in Hangzhou late last month, to discuss SMEs, public sector accounting and education issues. The Institute's Vice President Paul Chan spoke on developments of the proposed financial reporting framework and standard for SMEs in Hong Kong. Professor Judy Tsui, the Institute's nominated CAPA representative on IFAC Education Committee Consultative Advisory Group, spoke about the role of the committee and its important oversight functions on world education standards.
