T
he Institute elected Paul Chan as president, and Mark Fong and Carlson Tong as vice presidents for the
year 2006 after its 33rd AGM last Friday. In addition to Mark Fong, six other members were elected to Council. They are: Albert Au, Chan Kwok Wai, Susanna Chiu, Wilson Fung, Ronald Kung and Keith Pogson. John Poon from Esprit was earlier appointed by the government as a lay member on the Council. Forum for CEO and CFO
T
he Institute is organising a CEO and CFO roundtable luncheon on 11 January, with Vernon F. Moore, executive director to CITIC Pacific Ltd. and CITIC Hong
Kong (Holdings) Ltd., sharing his experiences in dealing with issues arising from complying with the new financial reporting standards. The luncheon offers a good networking opportunity with other members and business leaders. Click here to enrol by 5 January.

Franchising in Mainland
T
he Mainland Business Interest Group is organising a seminar on "Franchising in Mainland" on 19 January.
Executive director of Baleno Holdings, Samuel Chan, will share his experience in the Mainland and the latest developments in this field. The enrolment fee is $200 for Institute members, who will also get 1.5 CPD hours. Click here for more.

Insolvency Training

ome and learn more about insolvency administration and related legal issues at the Intermediate Insolvency Training Course starting in February 2006. Don't
miss this chance and register by 12 January to secure a seat.

PRC Workshops
T
he workshops on PRC accounting, auditing, taxation, capital markets and corporate governance are designed
for CPAs wishing to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the Mainland's investment environment. The programme will be delivered in 13 three-hour workshops on Saturdays from 11 February to 25 March. Click here for more.

Reminder
Employers who are supervising the Institute's students, but haven't yet registered as an authorised supervisor or authorised employer, are advised to do so by the end of this month. This way, the whole period of the student's practical experience under your supervision since 1 January 2005 will be recognised for admission to membership. Please see application forms (Form AEMP & Form ASUP) for more.
The Institute and the Trade Development Council are organising a study mission to Qingyuan and Guangzhou on 8-10 January for members to explore investment opportunities there, and meet with financial, tax, trade and economic authorities and CPA counterparts.

The International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of IFAC is looking for a technical manager.
The Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association is organising a luncheon talk on "Five years of the MPF - members are making money" on 13 January. Institute members will enjoy a discount.
