lai see package contains a two-book set commissioned by the Institute to show Hong Kong families how the skills of CPAs make them the "success ingredient." The first storybook (for children) is May Moon and the Secrets of the CPAs and the second, How to Raise a Money-Wise Child, provides good ideas for parents about helping children bloom into financially responsible adults. he Institute is researching the attitudes of young members aged 35 and below on their workplaces,
career expectations, and training priorities. Click here for more information about the survey, and you could win an 2GB iPod Nano. (Note: The survey and chance to win the iPod are restricted to young CPAs.)

Congratulations to Sporting CPAs
C
ongratulations to the Institute's team for winning the Joint Professional Basketball Tournament, in
competition with other Hong Kong professional bodies, including the Dental Association, Medical Association and Law Society. The tournament was held in single league format from 13 November 2005 to 8 January 2006.
The CPA 2005 Football Competition also concluded with Team WKL & Partners clinching the championship and Team 3+ the first runner up. Twenty-one teams participated in the competition from 19 November 2005 to 15 January 2006.
   

CPD Update
The Institute is offering a variety of CPD programmes in February and March:
SIR400 - Comfort letters and due diligence meetings on financial and non-financial information (10 February)

Hong Kong taxation workshop (25 February)
How to prepare and conduct a case for clients before the Board of Review (27 February)
HKAS 16, 17 and 40 and Interpretations 1, 2 and 4 (4 March)
Negotiation techniques (8 March)
HKFRS 5, HKAS 36 and HKAS 38 (15 March)

T
he latest issue of TechWatch features new TUE programmes from January to April and CPD activities for
February. It also announces the release of Handbook Update No. 24 covering two new Audit Practice Notes, new and revised example auditors' reports, and an invitation to comment on a proposed revised ISA on related parties. You can also see the Institute's 2006-07 budget proposals and submissions, information on international meetings, International Newsbytes and Q&As.

Reminder
The Institute is organising an Executive Programme on Information Technology Risk Management, in collaboration with Hewlett Packard and HKU SPACE, from February to April. Applicants can claim 80 percent of course fee from the Continuing Education Fund.
The workshops on PRC accounting, auditing, taxation, capital market and corporate governance, designed for CPAs wishing to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the Mainland's investment environment, will be held on Saturdays from 11 February to 25 March. The enrolment deadline is 27 January.
