IAASB meeting in Hong Kong
T
he IFAC International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board's five-day meeting, hosted by the Institute, ended
on 10 March after discussions on ISA 600 (revised) The Audit of Group Financial Statements, ISA 540 (revised) Auditing Accounting Estimates and Related Disclosures, ISA 260 (revised) Communications with those charged with Governance, and the proposed ISA 701 The Independent Auditor's Report on Other Historical Financial Information. Standard setting for stakeholders
T
o promote understanding of financial reporting standards

among stakeholders, the Institute held a media workshop in February, talked to IRD officers on SME financial reporting in early March, and is organising seminars for members of the Hong Kong Association of Banks. The Institute was also invited by the Macau government in early March to share its experience.

A Plus this month - Business performance

he March issue of A Plus studies the basics of business performance,
featuring analyses on how to make better forecasts, improve cash flow and prepare for the worst. See also the feature on how the Institute is stepping up its efforts to promote understanding of HKFRS.

Global outlook seminar
T
he Institute's Insolvency Interest group is organising a lunch seminar
on 22 March featuring David O'Rear, chief economist of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. O'Rear will explore the challenges facing the world economy in the next two years, and examine how these affect Hong Kong. Click here for more.


Walk up Jardine House

he Institute ranked 7th in the annual "Walk Up Jardine
House" competition on 12 March to raise funds for charity. The Institute team finished 947 steps (49 floors) to reach the top of Jardine House in four minutes and 31 seconds. Thanks to the sporting CPAs: Patrick Chan, Crystal Ho, Yale Leung, Bernard Poon and Barry Tam.

New education director
The Institute has appointed Mike Li as the director of student education and training. Mike is a fellow of the Institute and a chartered accountant from Australia. He obtained his master degree in accounting and finance in the UK and has 19 years of experience in accounting, taxation, education and training.
Online support for PC candidates
The Institute has introduced a new practising certificate centre online to assist PC candidates pass their examinations. The centre provides useful resources including past exam papers and web cast videos on exam seminars. Log on the members' website for more.
Groom future leaders

Sign up as a workshop facilitator for the Institute's CPA qualification programme to pass on your skills and experience to students who want to become CPAs. Apart from networking and keeping your technical knowledge up to date, it is the best way to get paid for meeting CPD requirements!


AAT rebrands
The Institute's subsidiary, HKAAT, rebranded last month with a new name, Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians Limited (香港財務會計協會有限公司) and a new logo, which symbolises vitality, excellence and professionalism.
