Vice President appointed listing chairman
arlson Tong, vice president of the Institute, has been appointed chairman of the listing committee for the HKEx. Tong, partner in charge of audit at KPMG China & Hong Kong, was appointed to the listing committee in 2001. He is chairman of the Institute's auditing and assurance standards committee and professional standards monitoring committee.

Mainland labour law seminar
he Institute is organising a seminar on "Mainland labour law" with the Trade Development Council on 20 June, with speakers from the Guangdong Provincial Labour and Social Security Department. Admission fee is $200 and two CPD hours will be awarded. The second part of the series to discuss the impact of the labour law on foreign investment is tentatively scheduled for September.

AA English programme comes of age
he English Plus scheme under the Accountant Ambassadors Programme celebrated its 10th anniversary on 13 May after serving more than 4,000 secondary school students. The Institute has been working with Caritas since 1996, drawing on the enthusiam of its members to teach students spoken English and life skills by acting as their mentors.

Women's agenda
Women's Commission is organising a conference on 19 June to promote gender equality under the leadership of Sophia Kao, who is a Council member. Community Services Committee leaders Susanna Chiu and Ayesha Macpherson will speak on financial management for women. Please click here to register.

PIOB reports
The Public Interest Oversight Board, formed by IFAC in early 2005 to restore public confidence to the accounting profession, has issued its first report about public interest activities and its member body compliance program. Click here for the report.

PRC workshops
The Institute is organising workshops on PRC investment environment from 8 July to 19 August. Professors from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University will speak on PRC accounting, auditing, taxation, capital market and corporate governance. Click here for more.
