Dialogue with Jia Qinglin regarding CEPA |

resident Paul Chan, on the HKSAR government's invitation, shared his views at a forum officiated by the visiting chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Jia Qinglin, on 28 June. Chan discussed regional economic co-operation under CEPA, including extending mutual exemption of professional examination papers to all members, and expanding practice associations between Hong Kong and mainland firms, among other topics. |

nstitute President Paul Chan, Past President David Tak-kei Sun and Fellow Member Elizabeth Law were awarded the government 2006 Honours on 1 July. Sun is awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) in recognition of his distinguished service to Hong Kong's financial markets, especially the accountancy profession's regulation. Chan and Law are awarded the Medal of Honour for valuable service to the profession and the community. |

early 200 teenagers from the Malaysian Pay Fong secondary school learned more about managing money through the Institute's "Rich Kid, Poor Kid" road show televised live from Hong Kong on the Internet on 28 June. The road show's successful electronic debut in Malaysia means the "Rich Kid, Poor Kid" programme knows no boundaries. It has also generated significant media coverage in Malaysia. Due date for D-code profits tax returns extended |
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has extended the filing due date of the 2005/06 profits tax returns with "D" code accounts in the Block Extension Scheme from 15 August 2006 to 29 August 2006. The due date for profits tax returns filing with "M" code accounts remains unchanged on 15 November 2006. The IRD also accepts financial statements prepared in accordance with the Small- and Medium-sized Entity Financial Reporting Standard for qualified businesses. Outstanding CPAs in community service |
The Institute is calling for nominees for the "Outstanding Accountant Ambassadors Awards" to recognize accomplishments in community services. Winners will receive $10,000 for donating to a charitable organisation in his or her name. The judging panel is comprised of social service celebrities and senior government officials.
