Serving the public
he Institute leadership's contribution to public services has been recognized by the government, with President Paul Chan's appointment as chairman of the Legal Aid Services Council for two years starting this month and Vice President Carlson Tong's appointment as Justice of the Peace in early July.

Care for the elderly
lderly advocates met with Institute representatives on 30 August to explain their plan to improve Hong Kong people's retired lives. The group expects the government will soon introduce a public consultation to look into the rapidly ageing population issue. No double tax
Hong Kong gets a stronger position as a gateway to China for international companies as a result of the new tax agreement signed with the central government. The Institute praises the agreement as good for business by eliminating double taxation.
