Institute hosts GAA meetings
Chief executives of accounting bodies in major capital markets gathered at the Institute last week for the two-day Global Accounting Alliance board meeting. Prior to that, more than 150 Hong Kong members of these accounting bodies joined the cocktail reception on 12 June.

Dragon boat races   The Institute's dragon boat teams came in fourth place in the finals in the mixed and ladies races at Discovery Bay on 19 June. The teams will compete in the mixed championships race in the coming Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races on 23-24 June at Tsimshatsui.

Five-day week

The Institute will adopt five-day working week for the secretariat effective 1 July. The secretariat will extend working hours to 6 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and the reception counter and library will remain open on Saturday morning, so there is no reduction in service. Tax consultation ends

The government has received 2,400 written submissions from the public after the nine-month consultation on broadening Hong Kong tax base and it is recommended that the next government should look for more practical options on tax reform, News.gov.hk reports. + [Click here to see the Institute's submission.]


TV campaign

HKICPA's new TV campaign consists of a series of "success stories" that illustrate CPAs are truly inventive and creative. The ad is running on TVB Jade, Pearl and pay vision for four to six weeks with a print campaign to launch later in the year. Marketing-interactive.com reports. +


Auditor liability in Ireland

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland welcomed the publication of the responses to its public consultation on auditor liability by European Commission. The consultation concluded that limiting auditor liability would contribute to the sustainability of the profession and stability in capital markets. Icai.ie reports. +
