Practice review e-questionnaire

The practice review self-assessment e-questionnaire is now online and the Institute is running workshops to help you complete the questionnaire and understand more about practice review. Read the letter from the director of quality assurance about this and click here to sign up workshops.


Second annual Institute / ICAEW conference
The Institute is teaming up with ICAEW to hold another high profile conference on 24 October at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The programme will look into the hottest issues affecting the profession, including new regulations, standards, money laundering, integrity, CFO challenges and recruitment. Institute members get special discount and seven CPD hours. +

Corporate governance awards
Entry to the Institute's Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards closes on 24 August. The awards are promoted at the CNBC website (see banner ad at the bottom of the CNBC screen).

Dragon boat champions
Our CPA teams came in the champion of the open women competition and 3rd runner-up in the open mixed and professional bodies competitions in the Summer Vigour Mini Dragon Boat Races at Sai Kung on 22 July. Congratulations!

GEM developments

China is planning to establish a growth enterprises market at the Shenzhen Stock Exchange next year, which is expected to attract over 1,000 listings. In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong stock exchange is encouraging GEM companies to shift to the main board by simplifying procedures and cutting fee, China Daily and SCMP report.


U.K. probate works

Scottish accountants working in England and Wales will be allowed to compete with lawyers in offering probate services, which cover the handling of funds in the deceased's estates, The journal of the Law Society of Scotland reports. +


U.S. auditing rules

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is asking small public companies to get ready for the auditing rules in section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which have been deferred for small companies several times, AASTOCKS.com reports. +

Comments on auditor's legal responsibilities
The Institute supports the IAASB's proposed redrafted ISA 250 on auditor's responsibilities relating to laws and regulations in financial statement audits as it provides more consistent and appropriate guidance. The Institute also asks for anti-money laundering guideline. +

India accounting

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has decided to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards by April 2011 for public companies and believes this will ease the problems of accounting for cross-border mergers and acquisitions, according to WebCPA.
