Sir Gordon memorial
Founding president Sir Gordon Macwhinnie's memorial service is taking place on 10 Sept. from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral on Garden Road, Central. Joint conference with ICAEW

The second annual conference organized by the Institute and ICAEW is scheduled for 24 Oct. at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The Lord Mayor of the City of London will address the two cities' strengths as global financial centers, while other speakers will cover the new Hong Kong Financial Reporting Council, HKFRSs, money laundering and CFO challenges. +

Tax treatments

Quarterly reporting

HKEx is proposing that firms with a market capitalization of at least HK$10 billion should report results every three months from Sept. next year, while smaller firms won't need to comply until Sept. 2010, SCMP.com reports. +


Another free paper

The Standard will become the first local English daily to switch to free circulation, a business trend already adopted by three Chinese dailies. Starting 10 Sept., 120,000 copies will be distributed in business districts and high-traffic locations. +
