QP hits new record
The number of QP graduates reached a new record of 916 this year, a 66% jump from last year. The qualification programme has accumulated more than 9,100 candidates and 2,400 graduates since its introduction in 1999. Click here for the press release and graduate list.

"Be a CPA" website
  A special website created by the Institute is now online to introduce young people to the profession. BEaCPA.com.hk provides a step-by-step guide to becoming a CPA. The site has drawn over 80,000 hits since it have been live on 10 Sept.

New council member
Ada Chung has become an ex-officio council member effective 27 Aug., following her appointment as the new Registrar of Companies. Gordon Jones retired from the post after 34 years of public service, including 14 years on the council. Click here for the government's press release.

NYSE adopts XBRL

The New York Stock Exchange will use extensible business reporting language (XBRL) to make their financial data searchable online. The U.S. SEC said this would save significant time and expense for investors, analysts and preparers, CFO.com reports +


Rating agencies face scrutiny

U.S. regulators are reviewing whether credit-rating agencies have any conflicts of interest in the mortgage market debacle. The three biggest agencies have been criticized for failing to give investors' adequate warning, according to AASTOCKS.com. +


China's luxury bling

Mainland people's spending on luxury goods will jump 134% to US$44.4 billion in 2016, according to a recent study. China is now the third largest luxury goods markets, accounting for 12% of global sales, behind Japan's 41% and U.S.'s 17%, SCMP.com reports. +
