Praise for annual report
The Institute's annual report was featured in Hong Kong Economic Times (29 Dec.) in an article praising it for an outstanding concept for keeping readers interested. HKET says the Institute made the annual report environmentally friendly and cost-effective by separating Chinese and English languages and allowing members to choose an online version. +

Budget coverage
Comments from the Institute regarding the government's budget were widely covered by the news media in December, with about 20 print and electronic reports. At the press briefing on 20 Dec., the Institute called for tax cuts for families. +

Joint seminar with SFC on PN 820
An Institute seminar with the Securities and Futures Commission about the audit of licensed corporations and associated entities of intermediaries is taking place on 12 Jan. +

China's A-share market topped the world last year by raising a total 447 billion yuan from initial public offerings, according to Ernst & Young's statistics, China Securities Journal reports. +


Sanyo's accounting errors

Sanyo Electric has corrected six years of earnings reports after being threatened with delisting by the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Hong Kong News.Net reports. +


"Accountant" protection

Accounting institutes in the U.K. are gathering evidence from members to persuade the government to bar people without proper qualifications from calling themselves "accountants," Best Practice magazine reports. +
