May Moon in Chinese
 

The Chinese version of the Institute's May Moon book set, where CPAs share their core skills on money management with families, will be published during the Lunar New Year. It contains two books: May Moon and the Secrets of the CPAs for children eight to 12, and How to Raise a Money-Wise Child for parents. Special price is $30 for members until end of April. +

 

Spring drinks
The Institute's spring cocktail reception takes place on 26 Feb. with the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K.C. Chan as the guest of honour. The event is one of the ways the Institute thanks its more than 450 committee members, who will receive an invitation soon.

Documenting small audit
Members in practice are invited to join the seminar about how to apply the Institute's Audit Practice Manual on small audit engagements. Three sessions are available: 15 Feb., 18 Feb. and 19 Feb. +

Guangzhou mission

Thirty-five delegates participated in the study mission to Guangzhou organized by the Institute and Hong Kong Trade Development Council on 17-18 Jan. +

Auditors are warning that they will apply extra scrutiny of a company's viability, including its access to credit for the coming year, a sign that the credit crunch is spreading beyond the financial sector, FT.com reports. +


Backdating fraud

Former Brocade Communications Systems CEO has been sentenced to 21 months and fined US$15 million for fraud related to backdating stock options, BusinessWeek.com reports. +

The Institute has recently responded to three IASB exposure drafts about joint arrangements, improvements to IFRSs and amendments to IAS 39.
