Institute featured in news coverage on budget
 

The one-off tax breaks, broader tax bands and lower standard rates on salaries tax will benefit a big group of Hong Kong people without compromising the government's prudent fiscal policies, according to the Institute. Following the budget announcement on 27 Feb, tax committee chair and deputy chair, David Southwood and Ayesha Macpherson, along with current issues task force chair Paul Chan, talked to media about the Institute's position, which was widely covered in both print and electronic media. +

 
       

Counting on accountants

The Ministry of Finance has appointed 12 Hong Kong accountants as advisers to its accounting standards committee, saying the mainland government will draw on their expertise for the convergence project. These advisers include past presidents Marvin Cheung, Eric Li, Tim Lui, David Sun, Edward Chow and Paul Chan and council member Carlson Tong.

Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K.C. Chan was the guest of honour at the Institute's spring cocktail reception on 26 Feb., which drew more than 100 council members, committee members, past presidents, legislators and government officials.  

Help for snow storm victims
The Institute gave $50,000 to help the mainland's snow storm victims when President Albert Au presented a cheque to the Deputy Director Li Guikang of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR on 25 Feb.
