Beijing and Shanghai city groups established
 

Members living or working in Beijing and Shanghai can now network through the Institute's mainland city groups. The inaugural cocktail parties on 3 and 4 Mar. were a hit and were attended by over 200 members, students and guests from mainland government and professional bodies. Budget debriefing

About 100 members attended the briefing on 28 Feb. to hear more about the government's new budget from the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury K.C. Chan. +

The U.S. PCAOB has expressed reluctance to make changes to fair value accounting, which has been advocated by some in the wake of the credit crunch and huge company writedowns, according to Accountancy Age.com. +


Banks urged to cut loans

The U.S. Federal Reserve chairman is urging America's lenders to respond vigorously to its housing crisis by cutting the size of some outstanding home loans, Times Online reports. +
