Annual report clinches international awardsThe Institute's 2007 annual report received top honours from the prestigious international ARC Awards this week in New York City. Our report was singled out among 2,000 entries from 27 countries and clinched four awards for its outstanding design and text content. The report will be on display at the 5th annual European museum exhibition in Hamburg featuring the "Art of the Annual Report." +

 
    

New AAT qualification

 

HKIAAT is introducing a new syllabus for accounting technicians to meet the soaring demand of accounting services in Hong Kong and the mainland. The new structure, effective June 09, focuses on broader business and finance subjects. Click here for the press release.

Don't blame fair value for the crisis
The International Accounting Standards Board has released an update for its current projects, along with a draft report on fair value accounting in response to this week's Wall Street cataclysm. Board chairman David Tweedie emphasized that accounting is not the cause of the credit crisis, CFO.com reports. +

Internal controls puzzle small companies
More than one-third of small, listed companies in the U.S. said they have ineffective internal controls in the first year they have to comply with section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, CFO.com reports. +

For members registered before 1 Dec. 05 the three-year rolling CPD period ends on 30 Nov. 08. Members registered "on or after" 1 Dec. 05 require a minimum of 20 CPD hours (verifiable or non-verifiable) to renew their membership for 2009.
