pls prepare photoErnst & Young: Authorised Employer

One of the Big Four accounting firms, Ernst & Young has long had in place systems to help develop the skills it wants its employees to achieve and uses these systems to ensure the staff get the relevant training and job experience they need.

Learning and development partner Gerry Redmond says there is a close relationship between Ernst & Young's internal training scheme and the QP's practical experience component. "As a professional firm we monitor our people's training and development, and there is a strong tie between our own system and the Institute's," he says. "Being an authorised employer enables us to support our staff who aim to meet the experience requirements." Click here for more details.

  • Reading time (for final professional examination candidates only)
During the reading time in the final professional examination, candidates are only allowed to read the questions and plan and organise their answers such as jotting down points on the question booklet, flagging the relevant information on the materials brought to the examination hall, etc. Candidates are not permitted to organise the answers on rough paper. If you wish to write down any points, it must be done on the question booklet. The writing of answers in the script booklet is not allowed until instructed to do so by the examination supervisor.

  • Use appropriate script booklet
Candidates are required to use the appropriate script booklet to answer each section of the examination paper, i.e. case answers on the case script booklet, essay or short questions and answers on the essay or short questions script booklet. Suggestions for Candidates Preparing for the Final Professional Examination

Contributed by Dr Peter Tze Yi Lau, associate professor of Hong Kong Baptist University and final professional examination revision course co-ordinator

There is no real substitute for hard working and application. Reading is not enough. You must practice examination questions. It is only by being faced with having to write things down that you discover the gaps in your knowledge and understanding. The official answers are far more comprehensive than those expected from candidates written under examination circumstances, but they do give you a clear idea of what is expected in terms of form, style and technical standards. The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) is a not-for-profit entity incorporated by a Special Act of the Canadian Parliament in 1902. The CICA mandate is contained in the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Act, its act of incorporation, which was last amended in May 1990.

The CICA, together with the CA institutes, represents approximately 70,000 CAs and 8,500 students in Canada and Bermuda. CICA and the provincial and territorial CA institutes work to ensure that the profession is well positioned to confront the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities presented in today's marketplace.

Through reciprocal membership agreement signed with CICA in 2005, Institute members who have qualified through our CPA Qualification Programme and are trained under an authorised employer/supervisor registered with the Institute may apply for the prestigious CICA membership (other conditions apply).
