QP hits new record

The number of QP graduates reached a new record of 916 this year, a 66 percent jump from last year. The qualification programme has accumulated more than 9,100 candidates and 2,400 graduates since its introduction in 1999. Click here for the press release and graduate list.
 
     
 
"Be a CPA" website

A special website created by the Institute is now online to introduce young people to the profession. BEaCPA.com.hk provides a step-by-step guide to becoming a CPA. The site has drawn over 80,000 hits since it went live on 10 September 2007.
 
     
 
 
Authorized supervisor: Mrs. Chiu Yeo Gek Ngoh, KCS Ltd.

Mrs. Chiu Yeo Gek Ngoh has been working in the accounting profession for over 30 years. A graduate of the University of New South Wales, with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1972, Mrs. Chiu became a chartered accountant three years later in Australia. She came to Hong Kong in 1978 and worked at KPMG for 25 years.

2003 saw a turning point when KCS Ltd. spinned off from KPMG, and Mrs. Chiu was appointed as a director of the company in 2006. Now one of Asia's leading providers of corporate accounting, corporate secretarial, payroll outsourcing as well as trust and estate administration services, KCS helps companies manage their business from the planning and set-up stages to on-going administration and even corporate restructuring.

Mrs. Chiu has been registered as an Authorized Supervisor (AS) with the Institute's Qualification Programme (QP) since 2004. She believes that QP is an excellent programme for students pursuing a career in accounting for a number of reasons. "First of all, it is the fastest way to a professional qualification. Final examination results for June 2007 session

  Our special congratulations go to the top candidates of the final examination in June 2007 session. The gold and silver prize winners are Mr. Wong Wai Chung, Philip and Ms. Chui Wai Man, and the two bronze prize winners are Ms. Chan Wai Ying and Mr. Wong Wah.  
     
 
Gold award prize winner (Li Fook Shu Memorial Prize winner)

Wong Wai Chung, Philip obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Accountancy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006. He is now an assistant assessor at the Inland Revenue Department of the Government of HKSAR.
 
     
 
Silver award prize winner

Chui Wai Man, Jasmine obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2006. She is now an audit associate at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
 
     
 
Bronze award prize winners

Chan Wai Ying obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Accountancy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006. She is now an associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

 
     
 
Wong Wah obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2006. He is now an associate at Grant Thornton.

Chan Sheung Chi obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2006. He is now a tax consultant at KPMG.

Che U San obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Accountancy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006. He is now an associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
 
     
     
  Special consideration for QP workshops  
     
  QP candidates may offer an explanation for non-attendance at a QP workshop so that their marks may be adjusted. Any such request for special consideration with supporting documents must reach the director of student education and training within two weeks from the date of absence.

The Institute's Examinations Board is the only body empowered to decide whether or not marks will be adjusted. Examinations Board will consider each request based on its own merit, taking into account any special circumstance when finalizing the candidate's marks.
 
     
     
 
New release of questions and answers (Q&A) booklets

The QP questions and answers booklets for modules B and D (February 2007 session) and final examination (June 2007 session) are now available for sale at the Institute's reception desk. Each booklet costs HK$45. Alternatively, QP candidates can enjoy free online access to the Q&A at the QP learning support centre or read them at the Institute's library.

  • Follow an achievable and personalized study plan
  • Study as early as possible
  • Go through candidate learning pack sections once to at least obtain a general idea
  • Familiarize with special topics of QP modules
  • Participate actively in the workshops as discussions can enhance your understanding
  • Create your own notes and index for retrieving important information
  • Practise as many past exam questions as possible before exam
  • Read trade magazines and relevant technical updates
  • Learn from colleagues and other accounting professionals particularly for practical insights
  • Manage your time well to attempt all exam questions

  Presentation skills workshop

A presentation skills workshop, with the aim of helping students build confidence when speaking publicly was successfully organized by the Institute's QP Support Committee on 1 September 2007. Ms. Cheung Wai Tze, a winner of the Asian Top 10 Corporate Trainer 2006, led this workshop and introduced 54 participants to some useful techniques on how to deliver a powerful speech and to communicate effectively. Through Ms. Cheung's lively demonstration and interactive class activities, all participants enjoyed themselves and found the workshop very useful.

  Authorized employer/supervisor experience for membership admission

For admission to membership of the Institute, practical experience acquired on or after 1 January 2005 will only be counted if it is gained under an Institute-authorized employer or supervisor.

If you are not currently working under an authorized employer or authorized supervisor, please urge your employer or supervisor to apply for registration as an authorized employer/authorized supervisor with the Institute, so that your practical experience will be accepted for membership admission.
