New Council leadership

 

At the special council meeting following the AGM yesterday, Eric Tong (centre), Audit & Assurance Partner at Deloitte China's Global Financial Services Industry Group, was elected as the Institute's new President. Newly elected Council members
Voting for the 2017 Council election has ended. Congratulations to the seven members elected to serve on the Council for a term of two-years: Fung Ling Yip; Law Fu Yuen, Patrick; Lee Suk Yee; Leung Man Chun; Leung Man Kit; Li Kin Hang; and Leung Sze Kit, Roy.

Office closures and holiday break
The Institute offices and library will be closed on 24,
25 and 26 Dec, and from 4p.m. on 22 Dec (Winter Solstice). The Study Room will remain open from 9a.m. to 6p.m. on Sunday and the Public Holidays.
 

Formation of Hong Kong and Guangdong CPA practices alliance
On 8 Dec, a total of 54 CPA practices from Hong Kong and Guangdong Province agreed to form an alliance to expand their connections and explore business opportunities and potential collaboration under the Greater Bay Area initiative. A signing ceremony was held in Guangzhou to officiate the formation of this alliance. Click to see photos.

Official Receiver's Office tender notice
The Official Receiver's Office has issued a tender notice for taking up of appointments as provisional liquidator under section 194(1A) of the Companies (Winding Up and Miscellaneous Provisions) Ordinance (Cap. 32).

Capital markets series
Enrol in the capital markets series from Jan to Mar where legal experts will provide insights on how to prepare for an Initial Public Offering in Hong Kong and discuss some Mainland laws and regulations which are commonly encountered when Mainland firms undertake an IPO in HK.

Free event on cloud accounting
Visit the roadshow "The future is now" on 23 Jan to learn more about cloud accounting and the challenges today's small businesses are facing.
 
Competition results
The Institute's runners won two team championships for 10km and full marathon races, as well as many individual medals at the RSCP marathon competitions against architects, dentists, doctors and lawyers. Click to see full results and photos of the prize presentation ceremony.
Congratulations to the Institute's snooker team for coming second at the RSCP snooker tournament on 10 Dec. Freeman Cheng and Benson Lam also came second and third respectively for the individual Highest Break award. Click to see results and photos.

Tennis training courses

Sign up for the 4-session elementary and intermediate training courses where experienced coaches will provide structured training. Both courses begin in mid-January subject to venue availability.

Singing technique classes

Sign up for the 6-session elementary singing technique classes starting on 18 Jan or 19 Jan, or enrol in the 12-session advanced course starting on 20 Jan, 23 Jan or
8 Feb.

Merry Monday

At the Merry Monday on 8 Jan, speaker Gerard Leung will talk about sparkling wine including the manufacturing process, the difference between Prosecco and Champagne, and the elegance of sparkling Rosé.

Standard Chartered Marathon runner's pack and briefing

CPA runners who have elected to have your runner's pack delivered to your office can expect to receive your pack between 15 and 19 Jan. Please do not go to Victoria Park to collect your pack. Also sign up for the briefing on 6 Jan for strategies on race preparation.
