handle and gently turned it.
She swung the door open—and gasped. For now it
opened straight onto a brick wall. For a moment, she
didn’t know what to do. She just stood there with her
mouth open.
Then she tapped the wall. It was solid. Yet only
seconds ago, she had seen people enter the building
through this doorway.
The woman sneaked around to the window and shone
a flashlight into the room. It was empty and dusty, and
looked like no one had been there for months, or maybe
years.
Where did those people go? She shook her head and
said out loud to no one in particular: “I must be going
crazy.”
