  ccountants are renowned for hard work and long hours. But lest we forget the power of play, the Institute and Playright Children's Play Association are bringing you a PlayStreet on Sunday, 10 December at Chater Road. Come with your children to re-discover why play is a 'success ingredient' in a child's life and how it can help children develop imagination, creativity and physical strength.
 
  Hong Kong CPAs speak in Istanbul
ric Li, Institute's representative on IFAC, shared the Hong Kong experience on corporate governance and Peter Wong, Institute's past president, chaired the discussion forum on international standards at the World Congress of Accountants in Istanbul on 14 November. The four-day summit concluded on 16 November and saw a gathering of thousands of accountants from around the world. Visit the congress website for more.  
 
  AGM to elect new leaders
even Council members will be elected at the AGM on 15 December while the new Council will select the new president at a special meeting right after the AGM. Please observe the following timeline:
Nomination deadline of Council members (21 November)
Institute issues ballot paper with candidates information to members (28 November)
Deadline of return of completed ballot paper to the Institute (12 December)

  Institute praised for disclosure
 

he Institute receives two prizes for its achievement in corporate governance disclosure from the Hong Kong Management Association's best annual report competition on 6 November. The panel of adjudicators reviewed 115 annual reports based on whether they are timely, accurate, informative and well presented.

 
GST - Make your views known!

The independent survey on GST is now underway. Members should have received the questionnaire. Please complete the survey by 27 November so that the Institute can reflect members' views in its submission to the government.


IASB meeting in Hong Kong

The Institute is hosting the IASB's measurement roundtables in Hong Kong on 16-17 January. Click here for more information and to register as participants or observers.


Report on practice review

The Practice Review Committee has published its operations report for 2005, Enhancing Quality Through Practice Review, to summarize the main features of the new practice review programme and provide educational points to enhance practising members' work quality.


New IFAC president
Juan Jose Fermin del Valle of Argentina becomes the new IFAC president until 2008. The announcement was made during IFAC meetings in Istanbul ahead of the World Congress of Accountants. Click here to see the press release.
