  FRC chair and members appointed
ophia Kao, an outgoing lay member of the Institute's council, has been appointed by the government as the first chairperson of the Financial Reporting Council, and P.M. Kam, the Institute's nominee and a past president, was appointed as a member. In operation early next year, the FRC will investigate audit irregularities and accounting non-compliance of listed companies in Hong Kong. Click here for the government's press release.
 
 
  New lay member
he government has appointed Catherine Leung, managing director and head of Hong Kong investment banking of J.P. Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Limited, as a new lay member of the Institute's council. Ms. Leung's term begins on 1 December and lasts for two years.   Cast your votes
 

ast your votes by 12 December to elect seven council members. The new council will select the new president and vice presidents at a special meeting right after the AGM on 15 December. Click here for the letter from the Chief Executive & Registrar.

he results of the Institute's "Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards" 2006 were announced on 28 November, showing improvements in local practices but still some way to go for GEM companies and in the public sector. Three Hong Kong-listed mainland enterprises achieved high scores in the inaugural H-share category. Click here for more.
