Dinner to celebrate 10 years of success

The Institute and ICAEW's conference on 24 Oct. drew more than 100 participants to discuss issues from standards to regulation, money laundering, CFO challenges and retaining talent. City of London Lord Mayor John Stuttard (pictured) spoke about Hong Kong and London - two great financial centres. The conference was preceded by a dinner on 23 Oct. where local regulators and other guests were invited.

CICPA members who completed the Institute's qualification programme will get ICAEW membership, according to the 23 Oct. addendum to the membership and cooperation agreement between the Institute and ICAEW. Similarly, CICPA members who completed the ICAEW qualification will get the Institute's membership.


Tax interest group - annual IRD meeting
The annual meeting with IRD is the subject of the taxation interest group forum on 8 Nov. Join us to discuss issues in the 2007 meeting and propose agenda items for next year. If you are unable to attend the forum, click here for a suggestion form to make your proposals.  

 


Beijing insolvency seminar

Comments on real estate sales
The Institute supports the IFRIC's initiative to eliminate the divergence among real estate developers in revenue recognition policies and is in favour of the consensus set out in D21. +

Comments to IESBA
The Institute recommends IESBA provide more guidance on safeguards applicable to sole practitioners and small accounting firms to ensure that the benefits of changes to auditor independence requirements outweigh the costs to SMEs. +

Stock exchange agreement

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nasdaq to cooperate in technology, market structure reform and services to SMEs, AASTOCKS.com reports. +


Unused taxes back to public

The HKSAR chief executive has pledged to return unused taxes to the public during his term and explore all measures for better air quality, but has rejected calls to abolish the foreign domestic helpers levy, SCMP.com reports. +


Overtime suit

Former accounting employees are suing PwC in the U.S., alleging they were improperly denied overtime pay and other benefits when they worked for the firm, CFO.com reports. +
