  New initiatives on corporate governance disclosure  

The Institute is launching new initiatives to help companies enhance corporate governance disclosure and practices. A Guide on Better Corporate Governance Disclosure comprises four topics: the board's roles, internal control, audit committee and communication with shareholders. In conjunction with the guide, a seminar was held on 20 Feb. and another one will be held on 3 April to cover the topics.

 

Spring cocktail
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Prof. K.C. Chan, together with guests from Hong Kong and the Mainland, joined the Institute's Council and committee members to celebrate the Year of Horse at the spring cocktail on 17 Feb. Click to see photos and the president's speech.

Standard Chartered Marathon 2014

More than 300 CPA runners participated in the Standard Chartered Marathon last Sunday, including the Institute's President Clement Chan, Past President Keith Pogson and Chief Executive Raphael Ding. They represented the Institute to run the 10km race for the SME Chairman Cup. Click to see photos.

All runners are welcome to the post-marathon drinks where trophies will be presented to outstanding runners. Submit your official result now and stay tuned for details of the gathering.

CSR and risk management
The seminar on 10 March will highlight the importance of corporate social responsibility in relation to risk management and how to minimize impact to supply chain when unpredictable disaster strikes. +

TUE session on internal control
The technical update evenings on 25 March will focus on practical aspects of internal control.

Intellectual property protection
Why do companies need to protect their intellectual property? Join the forensics interest group seminar on 3 March to learn more about this and measures that can protect intellectual property.

Join the HKICPA/CIMA workshops on performance strategy: risk and control and professional competence in management accounting to brush up your skills in those important areas.
Enrol in the budget commentary forum on 26 Feb. to discuss impact of the government budget on the community and economy.

Internal audit workshops
Hong Kong Management Association's workshops starting from 31 March will cover internal audit methodologies, and developing and managing an internal audit. Special rates are offered to Institute members. +

Outstanding Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs Award
The Hong Kong Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs Association's award is open for nomination until 15 March. +

IFAC Executive Director's visit
Jim Sylph, IFAC Executive Director, Professional Standards and External Relations, visited the Institute on 17 Feb. and updated members on the latest activities and work plans of the IESBA and IAASB at the lunch seminar.

The Institute's Auditing and Assurance Standards Committee and Ethics Committee also met with Jim to exchange views on IAASB and IESBA consultations on strategy and work plans, and other significant issues in standards development.

Transfer pricing summit
Golden Tax Summit is organizing a conference on 20-21 March to provide the latest updates and best practice of transfer pricing, and trends of anti-avoidance in China. Institute is a co-organizer and members get special rates.
 
  Tech updates
Institute comments on IASB documents
The Institute has commented on IASB discussion paper of A Review of the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting and exposure draft of Equity Method in Separate Financial Statements (Proposed amendments to IAS 27).

Application of IFRS 12 for fund managers
EY has issued a publication to discuss the impact of IFRS 12 Disclosure of Interests in Other Entities on fund managers. +

Golf day

Come enjoy the golf day at SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course on 22 March.


Bowling events
Come meet the challenge of the annual graded bowling competition on 30 March. Both novice and experienced bowlers are welcome.
Two coaching courses will start on 9 March for members who wish to improve the bowling technique. +
Join the bowl-for-fun night on 21 March where our bowling team will provide you some basic coaching. You can also practise for the graded bowling competition.
