"Insightful financial information"— a commonly cited term at the joint HKICPA / IASB investor roundtable on 5 Sept. Representatives from asset managers, research houses, and investment and securities firms debated how financial reporting could be improved under the Principles of Disclosure project. CPAs for NGOs: Advisory service kick-off

On 6 Sept the "CPAs for NGOs" programme launched the six-month pilot run of a pro-bono advisory service, pairing our Accountant Ambassadors with small NGOs to offer professional advice on accounting, governance, and risk management issues. IASB investor education

Around 50 investors and analysts gathered at the Institute on
4 Sept to hear the IASB's Head of Investor Engagement explain upcoming fundamental changes in accounting for insurance contracts, revenue recognition and financial instruments. For those who missed out, check out the IASB's Investor Perspectives.


Mandatory CPD requirements for 2018 membership renewal
Members who joined the Institute before 1 Dec 2014 are required to complete 120 CPD hours in the three years ending 30 Nov 2017, of which 60 hours must be verifiable. Time is running short before the year-end membership renewal. Click here to learn more about CPD requirements.

Anti-money laundering workshop
Join the AML workshop on 23 Sept to equip yourself with essential knowledge on financial and "white-collar" crimes and AML methods relevant to professional practices.

Soft skills workshop
Enrol in the soft skills workshop on 16 Oct to learn how to use different leadership styles to improve overall team performance.

CPA to CPA Plus
Held on 30 Sept and 14 Oct, the CPA to CPA Plus programme will feature 4 modules tailored for financial professionals to build a systematic business mindset, from financial investment theory to practical application.

Reminders

The IT seminar on 17 Oct will cover tips to develop an effective cyber security risk management programme.

Take an e-learning course, followed by a face-to-face seminar on 24 Oct to gain an in-depth knowledge about share repurchase schemes and their implications for Hong Kong-listed companies.

Spanish ham is a gourmet food, enjoyed by all. At the October session of Merry Monday, Chef Jim will tell you why this cured meat is so special. Come to enjoy some delicious ham with a glass of wine.

New Auditors Report

The new and revised HKSAs for auditor reporting have been effective since 15 Dec 2016. Auditors may find this ICAEW report, which shares insight on the UK experience, helpful.

 
CPA football competition
Form a team to compete in the annual CPA football competition which will be held on weekends between Nov 2017 and Jan 2018.

CPA tennis team recruitment

The Institute is forming a representative team to compete in the RSCP tennis tournament (men's doubles and mixed doubles) in mid-Nov. If you are an elite CPA tennis player, please submit your past records in external competitions by 11 Sept for internal selection.


Golf days

Sign up for golf day on 21 Oct at Phoenix Hill or the 4-session golf training courses (beginner and intermediate) at South China Athletic Association beginning on 15 Oct.


Reminder

The monthly dance dinner will be held on 15 Sept in Tsim Sha Tsui.
