National Day Dinner
More than 700 members and guests joined the 68th National Day celebration dinner for the accounting profession on 20 Sept. The guests of honour this year included The Hon. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, the Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Hu Jianzhong, Deputy Commissioner, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR; and Zhang Qiang, Deputy Director-General, Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR. Best Corporate Governance Awards series: Awardees' views on good corporate governance

Accounting series: financial instruments − debt or equity?
The accounting series in October will focus on the general accounting principles and guidance for distinguishing between debt and equity, as well as applying them to real life cases in the China / Hong Kong markets.

New face of Professional Diploma in Insolvency
The Institute will reveal a new programme structure for the Professional Diploma in Insolvency in 2017-18. The change in structure is intended to give more flexibility to participants wishing to pace their studies. Enrolments will begin shortly. Please express your interest here to receive priority enrolment.

Strategic case study and risk management
Enrol in the strategic case study and risk management workshops in October and November to sharpen your financial and management skills, and enhance your business acumen and commercial awareness.

CPD requirements
Members are required to declare CPD compliance annually for membership renewal. Any false declaration may result in membership not being renewed. The matter may also be referred to Council for disciplinary action as the Institute sees fit. Click to learn more about CPD requirements.

Invitation to comment
The Institute is seeking comments on the IESBA Exposure Draft Proposed Revisions to the Code Pertaining to the Offering and Accepting of Inducements. Comments should be submitted by 8 Nov.

IFRS Practice Statement
The IASB published IFRS Practice Statement 2: Making Material Judgements, which provides companies with non-mandatory guidance on how to make materiality judgements. This 3-minute video introduces the new Practice Statement.
 
Competition results
Congratulations to Lui Tat Ying and Tong Yat Chong for clinching championship at the 3rd Mini Bridge Tournament on 16 Sept. Siu Wing Hay and Lee Chi Kit, Stephen placed second, while Leung Tsz Fung and Lui Chun Ho placed third. Click to see photos.

The Institute's bowling team placed third in the RSCP Tenpin Bowling Tournament on 10 Sept against teams from other professional bodies. The team also received an award for the single highest game score. Click to see photos.
