BCGD Awards winners
The Institute has announced winners for the 16th Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards. The results show that there is progress although room for improvement still remains. This year, fewer top awards are given out but it is encouraging to see broader efforts to move towards best practices.
 

Renew your membership

You should have received your 2016 membership renewal notice by email and post last week. Please pay your membership fee and file your annual return with CPD declaration online by 15 Dec. Click here to renew or check your renewal status.


Extension of mutual recognition agreement between Hong Kong and the U.S.

The Institute's mutual recognition agreement with the U.S. International Qualifications Appraisal Board has been extended for one year to 31 October 2017 in order to allow more time for both sides to conduct the mutual review for renewal purpose. All terms for obtaining the Institute membership and U.S. CPA designation under the agreement remain the same.


The big three costing systems

The workshop on 12 Dec. will examine the three most common costing systems' features, benefits and limitations by using real examples.


CPD tips: How to apply for CPD exemption

Members who are not doing accountancy or related work, whether paid or unpaid, and do not plan to do so for a significant period of time, as well as meeting other requirements, may apply to the Institute for CPD exemption. Accountants' professional liability

The seminar on 9 Dec. will cover an overview of accountants' professional liability exposures, various risk management measures and details of accountants' professional indemnity insurance.


New May Moon books in Chinese and digital

The Chinese translated version of May Moon's Book of Choices, titled 美滿抉擇之書, is now released. To share with a wider audience, the new book and all other May Moon titles are now available online. The book series is part of the Rich Kid, Poor Kid financial education programme which helps young readers learn the basics of money management and value. The print copies can be purchased through mail order or at the Institute.


Reminders
The seminar co-organized with the CFA Institute and the HKSFA on 10 Dec. will talk about the nature of portfolio pumping activities and their impacts on market integrity and investors' trust.

The seminar on 7 Dec. will discuss the advantages, operation flow, business opportunities and challenges of cross-border e-commerce.

Join as mentees of the 2016-17 mentorship programme to learn from your seniors and enrich your career growth and other development. Members are also welcome to join as mentors by 31 Dec.

Members' handbook update no. 176 contains revised 1.101A Guidelines for the Chairman and the Committee on Administering the Disciplinary Committee Proceedings Rules.

Guide for integrated reports
IIRC and IFAC have released the Guidance for the Preparation of Integrated Reports with explanation on materiality and the corresponding determination process in the context of integrated reporting. It also outlines expectations for materiality-related disclosures.
 
Tribute to our trailwalkers

CPAs did it again with the will to succeed at the Oxfam Trailwalker 2015. Congratulations to all ten HKICPA teams who completed the 100km race within 36 hours.
