Programme accreditation

The Qualification Programme (QP) provides world-class and comprehensive training to ensure that upon completion, the newly qualified CPAs will be equipped with the necessary technical knowledge, professional skills, values and ethics, and relevant practical experience to meet the needs of employers in today's work environment.

To facilitate the nurturing of future accountants through the QP, the Institute recognizes education programmes that meet the professional knowledge and skills requirements of the QP through the programme accreditation process.

Why should your institution apply for accreditation?

The Institute's accreditation is a recognition of the quality, standard and competency level of your programmes.  In particular, it ensures that module exemption at the Associate Level of the QP is available to graduates of your programmes.

Your programmes will be listed on the Institute's homepage and hence will attract prospective students to your institution.  Other stakeholders will also be assured of the quality of your programmes.

Eligibility to apply for accreditation

Institutions that fall under one of the following categories are eligible to apply for programme accreditation from the Institute:

  1. It is a higher education institution (or its extension arm) recognised by the Government in the respective jurisdictions, e.g. UGC funded universities and self-financed institutions recognised by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government; higher education institutions recognised by the Ministry of Education of the Chinese Mainland Government or the Education & Youth Development Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; or
  2. The institution/ its programme has obtained the accreditation status of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) at Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF) Level 4 or above (or equivalent).

How to apply for accreditation?

Institutions interested in applying for programme accreditation should first indicate their interest by writing to the Education & Training Department of the Institute at accreditation@hkicpa.org.hk .
