HKICPA Council visits Beijing to meet MoF and counterparts; holds reception dinner to receive members in the Capital and organization representatives

Representing the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) leadership team and Council, a delegation, comprising President Edward Au, Vice-President Stephen Law and Jasmine Lee, Immediate Past President Roy Leung, Chief Executive & Registrar Margaret Chan, and more, visited Beijing on 25 - 27 May to meet seven Government departments and organizations including the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China (MoF), Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA), the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the Beijing Office of the IFRS Foundation and etc. for deepened exchanges. In addition, the HKICPA hosted a reception dinner for expanding networks across stakeholders during the delegation’s visit.

 

The leadership team and Council forms delegation to visit Beijing every year. Through the visit, the delegation shares the latest development of the accounting profession in Hong Kong with the Mainland’s Government departments and organizations, fosters mutual exchanges and advocates initiatives and suggestions that facilitating members’ development in the Mainland. During the visits to various departments and organizations, the HKICPA delegation shares the four development directions for the year ahead outlined by the “Strategic Plan 2025”, that include fostering sustainable development, attracting and nurturing talents, enhancing international influence and driving digital transformation within the industry. The group also shared updates on other advocacies that foster industry integrations.    

 

HKICPA President Edward Au said: “The delegation has a packed itinerary in Beijing, while having fruitful achievements in return. During the visit, the delegation had deepened exchanges with various departments and organizations, which strengthened mutual trust. Through the visit, the delegation showcased the latest development of the accounting profession in Hong Kong and initiatives for navigating different challenges to Government departments and organizations in the Mainland. We have also gained better understanding of the latest development of industry policies in the Mainland, which laid solid foundation for further cooperations between the accounting profession across regions.

 

The delegation visited the Accounting Department of the MoF on 26 May, where they shared the key focuses of the Institute’s work this year and the latest developments of Hong Kong accounting profession. Lin Qi-yun, Director General of the Accounting Regulatory Department of the MoF, then introduced the latest developments of the accounting profession in the Mainland. The two parties subsequently held discussions on the continuous convergence of accounting standards in Hong Kong and the Mainland, sustainable development and co-operation and communication in the field of international accounting affairs.

 

The MoF stated: “The MoF will continue foster an opening up of the accounting industry for deepened exchanges, particularly prioritizing to open up for exchanges with Hong Kong and Macau. At the same time, the MoF will continue facilitate the cooperation between the accounting sectors of the two regions in the areas of standard setting and talent cultivation.”

 

The delegation also visited the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the CICPA, the Beijing Office of the IFRS Foundation,

the CSRC and the Beijing Office of the HKSAR Government to have discussions on various topics related to the accounting profession, talent cultivation and exchanges, sustainability reporting and etc.

 

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Beijing Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA). The HKICPA has been keeping a close co-operative relationship with the BICPA. At the end of last year, the two organizations renewed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Hong Kong to deepen collaborations in three areas including member services, professional knowledge exchange and talent cultivation. Further to the MoU, both organizations had discussions during this visit to facilitate cooperation and exchanges between the accounting professionals and talents in Beijing and Hong Kong.

 

Apart from visits, the HKICPA organized a reception dinner to receive near 80 representatives of organizations, members of the Institute and graduates of the Qualification Programme (QP). The reception dinner aims to connect different stakeholders from various sectors in the Mainland and expand networks, with an aim to better understand needs of members that are developing careers in the Mainland and those of QP graduates for strengthening supports to members in the Mainland.
