Over 1,000 sports enthusiasts from the accounting profession take part in “CPA Sports Carnival 2026” co-organized by HKICPA and SCAACPA
Co-organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (SCAACPA), the “CPA Sports Carnival 2026” was held today (6 June) at the Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground in Diamond Hill. With the theme “Smart Health Future • Energetic CPAs” (智健未來．活力CPA), the event attracted over 1,000 sports enthusiasts from the accounting profession, representing more than 40 accounting organizations, along with their friends and family members.
The accounting profession is the cornerstone of the prosperous development of Hong Kong’s economy. In today’s fast-changing business environment, accountants must possess not only professional expertise to make critical decisions, but also actively pursue excellence in both physical and mental well-being, demonstrating remarkable vitality in balancing work and life. The theme “Smart Health Future • Energetic CPAs” perfectly embodies this philosophy. The event aims to promote physical and mental well-being among accounting professionals and showcase their vibrant side beyond professional roles.
Joseph Chan, Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Li Xuhong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Administration and Finance of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, Janey Lai, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council and Hon. Webster Ng, Legislative Council member (Accountancy) were Guests of Honour of CPA Sports Carnival 2026, and cheered on the athletes participating in the competitions.
Joseph Chan, Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, said in his opening speech, “Accounting is a vital “infrastructure” of the market economy and a universally recognized language of business. It plays an indispensable role in building a modern industrial system and advancing market internationalization. Hong Kong’s accounting professionals are renowned for their expertise and integrity, earning strong recognition from global investors and serving as a key pillar underpinning Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre.
The HKSAR Government has been committed to promoting the high-quality development of the accounting profession, continuously strengthening its professional advantages and international standing. The accounting profession demands focus, discipline, and perseverance, the qualities that resonate closely with the competitive spirit demonstrated by athletes. Today’s event not only provides a valuable platform for industry exchange but also offers participants an opportunity to step away from their busy schedules, relax, and foster team spirit.”
Stephen Law, President of HKICPA, one of the event’s co-organizers, stated in his opening speech, “Accountants are the mainstay of Hong Kong’s economic development. In this fast-evolving digital economy era, we need not only professional expertise to lead enterprises, but also strong physical and mental resilience to meet future challenges. This year marks the fourth edition of the CPA Sports Carnival, jointly organized by the HKICPA and the SCAACPA. It has become an annual signature event for industry. Through this event, we hope to unite the industry, strengthen collaboration, and encourage fellow professionals to embrace a ‘smart and healthy’ lifestyle while pursuing professional excellence, thereby showcasing the vibrant spirit of the accounting profession.”
Jason Leung, President of SCAACPA, also a co-organizer of the event, said, “The CPA Sports Carnival is not only a sports competition, but also a valuable platform for communications. On regular days, our accountants work diligently in different roles and firms, but today, we are united through sports. This sense of solidarity within the industry is precisely the most precious asset of the accounting profession. I am also delighted to see so many accountant friends taking part with their families, extending this positive energy beyond the workplace and to families. A healthy professional community requires each of us to strike the right balance between work, exercise, and life.”
Inaugurated in 2023, the “CPA Sports Carnival” is the profession’s largest sports and recreational event. Although some competitions in this year's edition were postponed due to adverse weather, the participants' morale remained undampened. Sporting elites from the accounting profession fully dedicated themselves to the competition, striving to achieve outstanding results for their respective organizations and demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship.
The “Chairman's Cup” competition proceeded as scheduled. In the Men's 100m race, Li Xuhong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Administration and Finance of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, won the race. Calvin Tse, Vice President of HKICPA, and Derek Poon, Expert Member of the Hong Kong Association of Accounting Advisors, claimed first and second runners-up respectively. In the Women's 60m race, Winnie Shek, President of The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, took the championship. Pauline Wong, Vice President of the Association of Women Accountants, and Sumi Pang of the Accounting Professional Development Fund secured first and second runners-up respectively.
As the statutory organization responsible for developing the accounting profession, the HKICPA will continue to provide various services for members to safeguard the accounting practitioners’ health of body and mind, and be dedicated to contributing and solidifying Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre.
