Programme Accreditation
Q1. | I commenced my study in an accredited accountancy degree programme in 2016/17 academic year. The programme duration is 4 years and I will complete it in 2019/20 by around July 2020. Will I be eligible for exemption of all 10 Associate Modules under the new QP? |
Grandfathering arrangements are available for existing accredited accountancy degree and conversion programmes. Students admitted to these accredited accountancy programmes on or before 31 December 2019 are eligible for block exemption of all 10 Associate Modules after graduation irrespective of the outcome of the re-accreditation exercise for the programmes (i.e. eligible for enrolment in the Professional Level of the new QP).
Q2. | The current accreditation period of the programme will expire in 2018. Will the institute conduct re-accreditation exercise on it? |
The institute's Accredited Programmes
Re-accreditation exercise for degree and conversion programmes with accreditation status yet to expire would be put on hold.
Review exercise is required for all accredited degree and conversion programmes (in the form of "annual update review" commencing in 2018):-
(a) Programmes fully fulfill the new accreditation criteria will be granted a2-year extension of the original accreditation
period, irrespective of the expiry date of the original accreditation period.
(b) Programmes fulfill most of the new accreditation criteria (marginal cases) are allowed to make up the inadequacy prior
to the annual update review exercise of 2019 and a 3-year extension of the accreditation period would be granted.
(c) Programmes with substantial gap in fulfillment of the new accreditation criteria are required to undergo a full-fledged
re-accreditation exercise (according to the original re-accreditation schedule).
The HKIAAT's Accredited Programmes
The HKIAAT accreditation status will expire after 31 December 2019 regardless of their original expiry dates.
Desk-based review (re-accreditation) exercise is required for all existing HKIAAT's accredited programmes:-
(a) Programmes fulfill the new accreditation criteria will be approved as the institute's accredited sub-degree programmes
and granted a maximum of 5-year accreditation period; and
(b) Programmes fulfill most but not all the new accreditation criteria (marginal cases) are required to undergo a full-fledged
accreditation exercise.
(c) Programmes with substantial gap in fulfillment of the new accreditation criteria will not be accorded the accreditation
status.
Q3. | Will existing accredited accountancy degree programmes be automatically granted block exemption of all 10 Associate Modules (Modules 1 to 10) under the new QP? |
Accredited accountancy degree programmes are not necessarily entitled to block exemption of all 10 Associate Modules. The number of module exemptions accorded to an accredited degree programme depends on the extent of the curriculum and syllabus of the programme could cover the learning outcomes of the Associate Level. Programme providers are required to do a detailed mapping in this regard. As the grandfathering arrangements only cover student intakes up to December 2019, the number of module exempted for students admitted to accredited degree programmes from year 2020 onwards will depend on the accreditation result of the respective programmes.
