HKICPA Business Case Competition 2018

The HKICPA Business Case Competition is an inter-tertiary event aims at developing university students’ business skills, cultivating their professional judgment and preparing themselves for the business environment.  In the past 16 years, the competition (formerly known as QP Case Analysis Competition) has grown to a triumphant event drawing teams with diverse business backgrounds from Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland regions.  It has carved a niche among tertiary institutions and has received accolades and support from eminent professionals and academics across the profession.

Format

There will be three rounds of competition:

1st round

Each participating team is required to submit a 15-page case analysis written report in English, including an executive summary of not more than 5 pages.

2nd round

60 teams (30 each from HK and Mainland) will be shortlisted for 2nd round review.

Oral presentation

12 merit teams (6 each from HK and Mainland) will be shortlisted to give a short oral English presentations based on their analytical reports.

Eligibility for entry

- QP Affiliate Club members who are studying undergraduate programmes in any discipline at tertiary institutions in Hong Kong,   

  Macau and Mainland are welcome to join the competition.   

- Applications are open to all those who are or become members of the QP Affiliate Club.

- Admission to the competition is on team basis comprising three to four members.

Important notes

  • Students of the winning teams are entitled to an internship programme placement at an organization assigned to them by the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs. By registering for the competition, the student enables the Institute to provide their information to the internship sponsors for making such arrangements.
  • Students of the winning teams are required to sign an undertaking to accept the internship programme at the assigned organization.
  • Prizes are not transferable and the Qualification Programme fee waiver cannot be redeemed for cash.
  • When submitting the written report, students must ensure no information on the written report is plagiarized from others. Students must ensure they are the owner of their original work.
  • All entries must be received by the closing date specified.
  • All students, who submit the written report and are selected for the finals, are required to attend the oral presentation day in person.
  • By registering for the competition, all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the rules of the competition.
  • All the finalists and winners must consent to the use of his/her name, photograph, presentation materials and video for publicity purposes by the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs and the programme's partners.
  • The Institute reserves the right to decide on the terms, final results of the competition and to amend the competition rules at any time.

 

Terms and conditions of the sponsorship for the transportation and accommodation for the 6 finalist teams (Applicable for the teams of Mainland and Macau area only)

  • The maximum sponsorship for each team covers a maximum of four students and one team teacher.
  • The maximum sponsorship fee per team is RMB 4,000 or the actual expenditure on transportation and accommodation, whichever is lower.
  • Students must present the original invoice for sponsorship application.
  • Students must courier the original invoice together with the payee’s relevant bank details including bank name, bank account number, bank identification code (Swift code) and payee’s name to the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants on or before 31 December 2018. Address: 4302-4313, Tower B, ZhongShihua Building, No. 191, Tiyuxi Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou. (Post Code: 510620). Late applications will not be accepted.All entries must be received by the closing date specified.
  • Students must apply for travel insurance and the Exit/Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau on their own before departure.
