HKICPA Business Case Competition 2020

 

The HKICPA Business Case Competition is an inter-tertiary event aims at developing students business skills, cultivating their professional judgment and preparing themselves for the business environment. In the past 18 years, the competition has grown to a triumphant event drawing teams with diverse business and educational backgrounds from Hong Kong and Mainland (incl. Macau) regions.  It has carved a niche among tertiary institutions and has received accolades and support from eminent professionals and academics across the profession.  

 

Four great reasons to join

  1. Attractive cash prizes and QP fee waivers

    Winning teams can get cash prizes, waivers of QP application and student annual fees valued totally at HK51,600.

    Finalist teams will get internship awards to gain valuable work experience from leading organizations in Hong Kong.

    Participating teams can learn how to apply technical knowledge into practical business context by exposing to the QP case question.

    Participants can interact with CPAs and business leaders during the luncheon on 28 November 2020.

 

Eligibility for entry

  • QP Affiliate Club members who are studying sub-degree or undergraduate programmes in any discipline at tertiary institutions in Hong Kong are welcome to join the competition.
  • Non-QP Affiliate Club members are also welcome. Participants will automatically become a member of the QP Affiliate Club for free by completing the online registration of the competition.
  • Admission to the competition is on team basis of three to four members from the same tertiary institutions.

 

Format

There will be three rounds of competition:

1st round

 

 

Each participating team is required to submit a 15-page business proposal in English, including an executive summary of not more than 5 pages.

 

2nd round

 

60 teams (30 each from HK sub-degree and undergraduate group) will be shortlisted for 2nd round review.

 

Final round - Oral presentation

 

 

12 finalist teams (6 each from HK sub-degree and undergraduate teams) will be shortlisted to give an oral presentation based on their written proposals.

Awards

Winners from each of the Hong Kong sub-degree and undergraduate groups will receive:

Champion HK$10,000 cash prize, QP fees waiver*, trophy, medal and certificate, with a total of HK$14,800
1st runner up HK$6,000 cash prize, QP fees waiver*, trophy, medal and certificate, with a total of HK$10,800
2nd runner up  HK$4,000 cash prize, QP fees waiver*, trophy, medal and certificate, with a total of HK$8,800
Best written proposal HK$2,000 cash prize, plaque and certificate
Best presenter HK$2,000 cash prize, plaque and certificate
Merit teams (3 awards) HK$2,000 cash prize, QP fees waiver**, medal and certificate, with a total of HK$4,400 
Internship placement 6 finalist teams (applicable to HK undergraduate group only)

* Fee waiver of HK$600 QP application fee and HK$600 student annual fee are awarded to each member of the champion, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up teams.

** Fee waiver of HK$600 QP application fee is awarded to each member of the merit teams.

Important notes

  • By registering for the competition, the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs is authorized to transfer students' personal information to the internship sponsors for internship arrangement.
  • Winners are required to sign an undertaking to accept and complete the internship programme at the organization assigned to him/her by the Institute.
  • Prizes are not transferable and the fee waiver cannot be redeemed for cash.
  • When submitting the written proposal, students must ensure no information on the written proposal is copied from others. Also, they must ensure they are the only owner of their original work and have a copyright for that.
  • All entries must be received by the closing date specified above.
  • All students who submitted the written proposal and are selected for the finale are required to attend the oral presentation day in person.
  • By registering for the competition, all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the rules of the competition.
  • All the finalists and winners must consent to the use of his/her name, photograph, presentation materials and video for publicity purposes.
  • The Institute reserves the right to decide on the terms, final results of the competition and to amend the competition rules at any time.
