Chief Executive and Registrar's message

CE-MargaretCHAN

I would like to begin by offering my congratulations to all the QP 20th Anniversary Logo Design Competition winners and finalists. Your designs really caught the spirit of the anniversary celebrations, and we were pleased to see so many inventive entries.

Since 1999 the QP has established itself as a world-class training programme for accountants, equipping its graduates with the technical skills and ethical mind set needed for success. The extensive programme prepares graduates with the skills they need to excel in their careers, and contribute towards Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and support our communities.

In order to maintain the relevance of the programme it is vital it responds to the changing business world. New technologies, new markets, new specialisms and other new developments are all changing the roles of accountants and the demands placed upon them. In response, the Institute is introducing the new QP and working hard to ensure the smooth launch of the upgraded programme. The new QP will retain the programme’s reputation for training quality graduates who are prepared for rapidly developing opportunities in the workplace.

In laying the groundwork for the new QP, the Institute has undertaken training sessions for workshop facilitators and examination markers, developed a tracking system to assist employers with the assessment of their QP student employee’s practical experience, and a new registration system and study materials for students. With these preparations, I am confident that the QP will continue to play a significant role in the accounting profession – not only for Hong Kong but also for the world.

On this very special occasion, I commend the dedication of those involved in the programme over the last 20 years. Council, Board and Committee members, facilitators and markers, and not forgetting the Institute’s staff – many have contributed to the success we are now celebrating. I extend my hope that this success continues to the new QP over the next 20 years – and beyond.
