The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants announced, from Tuesday 4 February 2020 onwards until further notice, to close library facilities and to adjust the services hours of counter on the 27th floor to 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday, whilst counter services hours on Saturday remains unchanged (from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon).

This is a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and safety of our members and staff given the evolving coronavirus situation in Hong Kong, while balancing the need to ensure the services to members.

The Institute also announced that all CPD courses and member events from 17 February to 1 March are cancelled. We will closely monitor the situation to determine whether it is necessary to extend the measure to other future events. Arrangement for future events and refund will be advised in due course. As part of the programme revamp, 5 comic books on wealth management launched in October 2019, featuring three characters “會繼司 (Certified Public Accountant, CPA), 大花童 (Spender Boy) and 好奇寶寶 (Curious Girl). In the stories, CPA acts as a mentor to Spender Boy and Curious Girl throughout their financial learning journey.

 

Through collaboration with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board, the newly-written comic series feature smart tips concerning online and banking security, ATM security, stored value facilities and the Deposit Protection Scheme – all bringing the financial education of the programme up-to-date.

 

Comic 1 “漫談收入” (Little Astronauts & Their Money Earning Strategies) focusing on the “earning money” concept

Do you want to be an astronaut? Or a CPA? Or to do something different when you grow up?

The first comic of the series talks about where money comes from.

Comic 2 “我想買恐” (I Want a Dinosaur) focusing on the “needs vs wants” concept

Miners Spender Boy and Curious Girl make a living from mining gemstones. One day, they find a rare gemstone and think they can live happily ever after. This book teaches children how to distinguish between “needs” and “wants”, and to make smart money decisions – even when they have plenty in their pocket.

Comic 3 “儲蓄領袖營 (Little Campers Learn to Save) focusing on the “saving” concept

Scouts Spender Boy and Curious Girl go on a leadership camp. Their irrational spending habits leave their teammates in difficult situations. How do they get away from their troubles?

The story emphasizes on saving for rainy day. The book also includes smart tips for parents.

Comic 4 “亂花費王子(Big Spender Prince) focusing on the “becoming a critical consumer” concept

The king has a Big Spender prince who loves shopping. One day, he finds the servant Curious Girl is stealing and reselling the prince’s precious collection. The king decides to help the kids cultivate better money habits by sending them to an outdoor adventure. What challenges will they face?

This book covers comparison shopping, through which children learn to become responsible consumers.

Comic 5 “百變的金錢(Amazing Money) focusing on the “forms of payment” concept

Circus owner Spender Boy is bad at storing his money and eventually lost his money due to a burglary. How do the circus performers learn to prevent future break-ins?

The story educates children on different forms of money and payment. This comic also includes smart tips for parents.
